Growing up on the majestic slopes of Mt. Elgon, I was blessed with a breathtaking view of nature's splendor. However, this beauty was short-lived, as time and again I have witnessed the devastating impact of climate change on my community.  Landslides, drought, and famine became all too familiar resulting in tight, biting poverty and I realized that women and girls were disproportionately affected. The patriarchal norms that govern our society only exacerbate their suffering, silencing their voices and denying them agency.

This injustice ignited a fire within me, and I became determined to create change. As a passionate feminist and climate justice advocate, I founded Creation Care Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering African youth,  particularly women and girls, to take action against climate change.

Our flagship initiative, 'Trash to Treasure' is a testament to the power of innovation and community. By collecting metallic waste and fabric scraps, we transform them into beautiful crafts, reducing waste and promoting sustainable fashion. In Nakuriti village, Namisindwa district, where climate change has ravaged the landscape, we've already empowered 20 women and girls with skills, and we're committed to reaching many more.

Despite the challenges we face, I remain steadfast in my commitment to climate justice, gender equality, and human rights. I believe that collective action can drive transformative change, and I invite you to join me on this journey. Together, we can create a more just and sustainable future for all.

As I stand on the slopes of Mt. Elgon, I am reminded of the beauty and resilience of our planet. I am also aware of the urgent need for action. I will not tire; I will not falter. I will stand strongly, with my feet rooted in the earth and my soul connected to the heartbeat of our planet, until transformative change has taken place.

I am committed to running the 'Trash to Treasure' project for at least two years, empowering over 100 youth, girls, and women in the process. I am lobbying for funding, but I will not let financial constraints hold me back. I will continue to work tirelessly, driven by my passion for climate justice and my commitment to empowering women and girls.
